Ten Important Pointers

A set of twelve 1 hour courses, each of which considers ten deceptively simple questions on the relevant topic, such as:

  • How do I identify an equitable easement, and am I worried if I find one ? (Easements)
  • Which is better: a unilateral notice or an agreed notice ? (Registration requirements at the Land Registry)
  • Can there be a lease if the occupier is not paying any rent ? (Short-term occupation)

 

The courses are also available in a version that lasts 1½ hours.  This includes some case studies and comparative drafting for participants to discuss.

The Model Commercial Lease (one hour)

An overview of the new Model Commercial Lease, looking at the background to the project, the principal provisions of the lease, its compliance with the Lease Code and how this attempt at lease standardisation differs from previous, unsuccessful attempts.

Sustainability issues for commercial real estate lawyers (one hour)

An overview of sustainability issues with which commercial real estate lawyers need to be familiar, including energy performance certificates and display energy certificates, the Carbon Reduction Commitment, minimum energy efficiency standards (a very brief overview only) and green leases.

Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard Regulations for commercial properties (one hour)

An overview of the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard (MEES) regulations as they apply to commercial properties.  The talk will look at landlords’ obligations to carry out energy efficiency improvement works, the types of works that may be required, occasions on which MEES will not be relevant, key dates, exemptions, enforcement and penalties.
